Enjoy 1½ lbs of our own cultivated shiitake and oyster mushrooms each week — yum! We’ve turned the cellar of our “Little Barn” into a mushroom cave, and are now growing mushrooms year-round, harvested daily. Week of Nov. 29, 2021 through week of Feb. 28, 2022, with a holiday break the weeks of Dec. 20 and Dec. 27.

Mushroom production is a relatively new project for us here at Siena Farms, and so far it has been a whole lot of fun, with very delicious results! Simple controls of temperature, humidity, light and air exchange (like us, mushrooms breath in oxygen and exhale CO2) have enabled a steady, year-round harvest of fresh mushrooms we can now offer to our CSA members. Currently we are growing primarily shiitakes and black oyster mushrooms, though we will continue trialing other varieties such as lion’s mane and king oysters, and slowly work toward an increasing diversity of shrooms over the years.
